Crafty Ladies
Crafty Ladies Carrigallen next meeting will be held on Friday next, 5 February 2016 at 10.00am in room over the Post Office. All are welcome.

Women's Group
Our next group meeting will take place on Friday night 5 February in Bredagh School at 8.30pm. We welcome Michelle Fanning who has a masters in nutrition and physical exercise to give a talk on healthy ways to improve our well-being and lifestyles. This is an opportunity to get mind and body motivated for spring /summer. New ideas and suggestions welcome for the upcoming months. Admission will be €5 which includes refreshments. Everyone welcome!

Christmas Lights
Carrigallen Christmas Lights committee would like to thank the following for their kind sponsorship towards this season's festive lights. Thanks to Modern Designs for the use of their fork lift, Seamus McManus for storage of the crib, Helen Corcoran for printing, Noreen & Kevin McManus for the hot tea & apple pie and Robbie Reilly for supplying the Christmas trees. A special thanks to local sculptor Martin Doyle who created a fantastic reindeer from mere branches of sally & ash. The artistic piece which was, of course named Rudolf became the topic of conversation throughout the town and who knows; maybe next Christmas Rudolf will be joined by Prancer or Blitzen. Thanks to the organisers and those who did the hard work of putting up the lights, especially Philip McIntyre & Brendan Kiernan.

Christmas Day Swim in Gulladoo in aid of Jack & Jill
Cathriona McManus wishes to thank all those who contributed and supported the Christmas Day swim in Gulladoo Lake, Carrigallen. To all the swimmers who braved the water in tough conditions, to Donal Cadden for providing the soup, all who helped out on the day, and all who made donations in support of the Jack & Jill Foundation. A sum of €1,459 was raised. Thank you all!

Carrigallen Outreach Service
Community Development and Family Support Worker Laura McHugh will be present in Carrigallen Health Centre on Tuesday mornings from 10.00am to12.30pm on a weekly basis.  This Service aims to facilitate and support individuals and their families in the community in becoming actively involved in identifying and meeting their social, personal and educational needs. Safetalk Training
Safetalk Training will be held in the Kilmore Diocesan Pastoral Centre on Wednesday, 10 February 2016 from 9.30am to 1.00pm. Safetalk is a half day training programme that prepares participants to identify persons with thoughts of suicide and connect them to suicide first aid resources. These specific skills are called suicide alertness and are taught with the expectation that the person learning them will use them to help reduce suicide risk in their communities. Participants learn how to provide practical help to persons with thoughts of suicide in only a few hours. Percy French looking forward to his 2016 'Party'!
To celebrate the birth of the great Irish composer Percy French, The County Leitrim Percy French Society will host their annual 'Percy's Party' in the Hunt Hall, Castle Street Mohill on the usual May Bank Holiday weekend 2016. As always, there will be a few surprises at 'Percy's Party'. The group are also making a return to the prestigious National Concert Hall to perform on Wednesday, 15 June and they have been invited to perform at a function organised by Brendan Harvey in the Bush Hotel Carrick on Shannon on the August Bank Holiday weekend, an event in Carrigallen in early July and Boyle in early spring. Aughawillan Drama Troupe
Aughawillan Drama Troupe is proud to present "Mother Knows Best" a comedy by Jimmy Keary and directed by Brian Dolan in Aughawillan Hall, Co Leitrim. The smash hit three act comedy will be for four nights the 11, 12, 13 and 14 February commencing at 8.30pm sharp each night. There is no need to book and admission is €10.00. Sweet Spirit for Cavan Oncology Unit
The Mohill based 'Sweet Spirit Gospel Choir' under the direction of Tish Dunleavy will perform in the Corn Mill Theatre, Carrigallen on Sunday evening, 10 April at 8.30pm. Many great Country, Gospel, Folk and classics will be performed on the night. The Cavan Oncology Unit, Cavan General Hospital will be the beneficiary of the show. Delighted to welcome the new members to the group!

Thank You!
The Annual Sean Reilly Memorial 25 Card Game in aid of the North West Hospice was held in M.J´s bar on Sunday, 3 January 2016 with a large crowd present. We wish to thank all who supported this worthy cause either by taking part or by donating prizes. Below is a list in no particular order of people who donated money or spot prizes.

Thanks to Mitchell's Bar who sponsored first prize €50 meal voucher to the winner of the card game. This was won by Seamus McManus who was playing for Maureen Gormley; Donal Cadden Kilbrackan Arms Hotel who sponsored second prize a €40 meal voucher which was won by Oliver Masterson playing for himself and third prize a bottle of brandy sponsored by Brian Gormley was won by Catriona Reilly playing for Chantelle Flanagan Aughnacliffe.

Bingo
Bingo on Sunday night, 31 January 2016 at 8.30pm in Carrigallen Community Centre. Money prizes total €3,100, including €1,000 on the 9th page. This will be the last Sunday of this season for bingo in Carrigallen as it is moving to Arva for the next six months.

Election Fever
Election fever kicks off here in Carrigallen with the campaign launch of Cllr Paddy O'Rourke on Saturday, 30 January at 10.30pm in The Kilbrackan Arms Hotel. Music by Family Affair and guest Sean Donohoe of Evening Star.

Couch to 5k
Couch to 5km beginners walk/jogging group starts Saturday, 30 January 2016 at 11.00am. Would you like to take part in an eight week jogging program aimed at getting complete beginners to comfortably be able to jog a full 5km at the end of eight weeks? No experience needed and all for ages* (11+) and all abilities catered for. The Couch to 5km program has been very successful nationwide at getting people up and active. Each week the group will meet and follow the plan, as each week passes we gradually increase the distance/time spent jogging but be assured you can go at your own pace and rest when you want to.

The program is easy to follow and breaks down each part of the session into obtainable targets/goals. If 5km isn't your goal you can still join in and take part in this group, meeting up with friends while also getting in some fresh air and exercise as a group. The cost of the eight week program will be €10. Min age 11/12 accompanied by adult. Please contact Paul on 0838029692 for more information or details. Fit Kicks Fitness Classes
Fit Kicks Fitness classes for this week are as follows. Ladies Boxercise – Wednesdays at 7.00pm; Men's Fitness - Thursdays at 7.30pm; Kids Soccer - Fridays at 7pm for 6 - 8yrs old and 8pm for 9-11yrs old and Teen Boxercise/Circuits - Fridays at 9.00pm. Diocesan Pilgrimage to Assisi and Rome - There are still a number of places available on the Diocesan Pilgrimage to Assisi and Rome from 12-17 September 2016 to mark the Year of Mercy. Congratulations
Congratulations to local County Councillor Paddy O'Rourke, Killahurk, Carrigallen on being nominated by the Fianna Fáil party to contest the forthcoming election in what was known as the Sligo Leitrim constituency, but comprises all of County Sligo, all of County Leitrim, a portion of south Donegal and most importantly for O'Rourke and all Leitrim based candidates, a significant portion of West Cavan, our near neighbours. Councillor O'Rourke was first elected to Leitrim County Council in 2004.

Wedding Belles
On Sunday, 20 December 2015, Baronial Hall Lough Rynn Castle, Mohill, Co Leitrim was the setting for the civil ceremony of Keeley Greenshields, daughter of Patricia Greenshields (Ryce), Carrigallen and Graham Aschmann, South Africa and London. Bridesmaids were Shelley Greenshields and Janine McManus (sisters of the bride). Bestman was Jason Purrll and groomsman was Nick Horner. Following the ceremony the guests sat down to a sumptuous meal. Keeley and Graham would like to sincerely thank their families and friends for sharing their special day with them, making it very memorable. An extra thank you goes to all those who travelled from London, South Africa and the USA to share their day. Wishing Keeley and Graham health and a lifetime of happiness together.

A four week course on The Parables of Jesus facilitated by Fr. Eamonn Bredin begins in the Diocesan Pastoral Centre, Cullies, Cavan Town, on Thursday 21 January 2016 from 7.30pm to 9.30pm. The cost of the course is €20 including light refreshments each night. Wedding Belles
On Saturday, 19 December 2015, St Mary's Church, Moyne, Co Longford was the setting for the marriage of Niall Reilly and Fiona Kiernan. Niall is son of Ann and John Reilly, Beaghmore, Carrigallen and Fiona is daughter of Mary and Eamon Kiernan, Ballyduffy, Moyne. Bridesmaids were Cathy Grimes, Louise Murtagh, Rosie Kelleher and Aisling Reilly. Bestman was Gary Reilly (brother of the groom), and Groomsmen were Paul Harrington, Michael Kelleher and Derek Reilly. Marriage ceremony was celebrated by Fr. Eamonn Corkery PP Dromard and con-celebrated by Fr. Dinny Murray PP Carrigallen. Following the ceremony the wedding party travelled to Lough Rynn Castle, Mohill, Co Leitrim for the wedding reception. Wishing Fiona and Niall health and a lifetime of happiness together.

Carrigallen Macra
Why not make Macra your New Year's resolution. Macra is a young person's organisation that offers opportunities in areas of sport, drama, public speaking, farm skills, as well a chance to meet and socialize. Margaret of New Orleans Committee says Thank You!
The Margaret of New Orleans Committee would like to thank most sincerely all those who made their fundraiser of the 25 Card Drive at Margaret's cottage on Sunday, 27 December 2015 a great success. It was held in memory of Jimmy McManus, Jimmy was a hard working volunteer on the Margaret project and loved to see the progress been made on the cottage in Tully South, Carrigallen. Congratulations to Noeleen Grimes, Drumury, Moyne who won 1st prize €100; Stephen Grimes, Bredagh, Carrigallen who won 2nd prize Bottle of Brandy and Seamus McManus, Bredagh, Carrigallen who won 3rd prize Bottle of Whiskey. A big thank you goes to all who donated prizes for the raffle; to all the ladies who helped with making the tea; to all the card players and to Tommy Brady who overseen the games. The funds raised go towards the annual maintenance and up keep of the cottage.

Leitrim Ploughing Association
Leitrim Ploughing Association Annual Card Drive will be held on Saturday, 9 January 2016 starting at 9.00pm in the Kilbrackan Arms Hotel. Tickets €2 and prizes – 1st prize €150, 2nd prize €100 and 3rd prize €50.

Like to Join?
The Mohill based 'Sweet Spirit Gospel & Country Choir' will be rehearsing for a special fundraising concert to take place in early April. New members welcome to be part of this fundraising concert. If you have a very positive outlook, enjoy singing and being part of a fun group in a very informal setting, prepared to commit to an hour and a half every Wednesday from end of January to early April, please contact 086-0827430. Rehearsals from 7.30pm to 9.00pm sharp.
